DescriptionEscaping from the enemy: do some plants ‘out run’ their natural pests? Introduced plants that escape into the wild often do spectacularly well in their new environments. In such cases, the leading hypothesis to explain the success of these plants posits that they have escaped from their natural enemies. That is, the plant has managed to ‘out run’ the pests and pathogens that traditionally undermine its ability to flourish. Project: Testing the ‘enemy release’ hypothesis for invasive species.
