Matakohe-Limestone Island is a small heart shaped island positioned in the middle of Whangarei Harbour. Its centralised position places it between fertile rural land, bustling urban centres, lush natural bush, and
beautiful harbour and ocean landscapes. The island is only small 500m from the mainland at its closest point but still maintains a strong sense of seclusion and detachment from its surroundings due to its inaccessibility. the Island is essentially a limestone rock that juts out of the calm deep water harbour and though it sits in a central position is very modest and quite and is often unnoticed.

Design Vision: To provide a development on Matakohe-Limestone Island that will give an opportunity to re-establish and enhance ties and connections between the island and the community of Whangarei through experiential design with a focus on the young youth and families.
