    DESIGN INTENT:
Aoraki becomes a “CAR FREE PARK*” serviced by a network of “MOUNTAIN POWRED” EV SHUTTLES transporting visitors both to and from and within the park, all powered by the waters of Aoraki through the Waitaki Hydro Scheme. Traffic and parking congestion issues are resolved, re-ducing negative impacts on both the environment and the visitor experience. Visitors are prompted to engage in a more immersive experience of the landscape by leaving their cars behind as a funda-mental and achievable act of kaitiakitanga. The new Education Centre in Mt. Cook/Aoraki Village be-comes a resource supporting efforts to study, understand and communicate the effects climate change is having on the region. The region becomes symbolic of both the consequences of climate change and our ability to change our behaviour in order to address the problem out of respect for Aoraki.
