Alexander Nathan enrolled at Canterbury Agricultural College in 1891. Alexander was born in Wellington but prior to coming to CAC he attended University College School, London. He was instrumental in establishing the company which was later to become known worldwide as Glaxo. Through the production and marketing of Glaxo baby food the company flourished. The company’s most important development during the subsequent period of World War II was the production of penicillin. Mr Nathan retired from the business in 1945 and in 1947 Glaxo Laboratories became a public company. Since that time the company has expanded dramatically through the production of hundreds of famous pharmaceutical and other health products. Mr Nathan died in London in November 1954. By then Glaxo was a household name throughout the world.PersonA.
