3 April 1986 Property management seminars held

Farmers, accountants and farm consultants have been invited to seminars on improving property management by using
computers, being run by the Lincoln College Kellogg Farm Management Unit, in Gisborne, Wairoa, Hastings and Masterton next week (April 14-19).

Leading the seminars will be Miss Sheryl Frew, distribution officer with the Kellogg unit.

The first seminar will be in the Federated Farmers Rooms in Gladstone Road, Gisborne, on Monday (April 14) evening from eight until 10 p.m.

The following afternoon (April 15), between one and three o'clock, the seminar will be in the Presbyterian Lounge at Wairoa.

The Hastings seminar will also be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and will be held in the conference room of the DB Heretaunga hotel on Wednesday (April 16).

The Masterton seminar will be held in the Golden Shears Motor Inn on Friday, also from 1 p.m. t.o 3 p.m.

Miss Frew said the seminars were intended to demonstrate how computers could be used for farm management.

Software programs developed by the Kellogg unit would be demonstrated.

These were a financial recording system, a production recording system, and a livestock recording system, she said.

The financial recording system is used for recording and analysing transactions, and mdking budget comparisons.

Production data can be recorded and analysed on the production recording system.

The livestock recording system is used for recording individual animal production and pedigree information in efficient management and animal breeding.

Twenty-three-year-old Miss Frew has a year-long assignment to run the seminars.

She has already run seminars in the south of the South Island, and at several towns in the North Island.

By the end of the year her seminar program would have taken her to most provincial towns in New Zealand.
