Diploma of Agriculture alumni from 1951-1952  enjoyed an afternoon at Lincoln University on 9 April, beginning with a university update in the Council Chambers followed by lunch in the Vice-Chancellor’s Lounge.

There were 17 in the party in all, made up of alumni, wives and widows and after lunch they visited the Lincoln University Demonstration Dairy Farm where they were hosted by Farm Manger Peter Hancox who described the farm’s operation and answered a range of thoughtful questions.  Reunion group organiser John Taylor said the farm visit brought ‘many old memories flooding back’.

“We were most impressed not only with the technology but with Farm Manager Peter Hancox’s story of the development and management of the farm.”

Among the visiting alumni in the group were Wally  Simmers, a member of the 1st Rugby XV in 1951 and  1952, Tom Hickmoot, Vice-Captain of the 1st Rugby XV  in 1952, and John Taylor a member of the 1^st Cricket XI in 1952 and the 1^st Soccer XI that year too.

Anne Lucas (nee Hudson) daughter of Professor Eric Hudson, Director of Canterbury Agricultural College  (1936-1952) was also in the tour party. Later in  the evening at the reunion dinner in Christchurch,  Anne provided the reply to the group’s toast, “To the  College!” Source: AlumniLinc (May 2015)
