One fine morning, early in the second term, the senior students set out in the College truck on one of Alby's farm management trips. On this occasion the students headed for the foothills and made the first stop at the farm of Mr. Reeves at Hororata. Most striking in the management of the farm was the handling of pastures for both grazing and seed production. From Hororata the students proceeded south to the property of Mr Ackland. Here Mr Flay took the men on a short tour of inspection to see efficient handling of light, stony sheep country. The afternoon saw the College truck following the Rakaia upstream, cross it, and then head for Windwhistle, where the students were able to inspect the property of Miss Richards. It was remarkable to see undeniable evidence of such efficient farming under the hard conditions as prevail.
