Hope passed away in 1975, she left behind a large collection of artwork. However, like many women artists of her time, her practice remained relatively undocumented. In 1993, the Canterbury Society of Art referred to her work as 'a well kept secret' and acknowledge during a major retrospective show that it was time to 'recover and reinstate her into the history of Canterbury's landscape tradition.'

'A Peaceful Morning - Lake Alexandrina' is a great representation of Hope's celebrated, impressionist style. Her loose, wet-handled technique allows the watercolours to capture the subtle movements of the lake, while her restrained use of colour evokes the serenity and peace often associated with the Aotearoa, New Zealand landscape.

Hope was tutored by celebrated Christchurch artist Margaret Stoddart who had encouraged her to paint her local environment. Hope favoured scenes of the Mackenzie district, where she lived with her husband for many years.
