His carefully crafted composition included references to bone spear heads, tree bark carvings, cave rock drawings and geometric carvings. These inclusions are informed by Reed’s in-depth study of Pacific objects in museum collections.
During a 50 year artistic career he has consistently commented on social and ecological issues with particular emphasis on the South Pacific.

Michael Reed graduated in printmaking from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts in 1969, and completed a Masters in Fine Arts in 1999. He taught for many years at Art and Design, ARA Institute of Canterbury and has artwork in many national and international collections.
