As a child Blair often visited Cass in the Southern Alps with her family. Her father, Dr. I.D. Blair was a Microbiologist (1945-1974) at Lincoln University.
The un-stretched canvas is reversible and able to be hung in a variety of iterations which in turn influence the feel of the work. Its current closed state suggests a mysterious interior only partially visible. Blair discovered this way of working after she stapled a canvas to the wall and found the next morning it had flopped over. It was a happy accident that became purposeful. Two dimensional paintings began to resemble sculpture and Blair enjoyed breaking down the barriers between mediums.

Often described as a semi-abstract expressionist artist, Blair cites her University of Canterbury lecturer Rudi Gopas as an early influence. Since graduating in 1967 she has exhibited extensively and her work is collected internationally.
