As a child Blair often visited Cass in the Southern Alps with her family. Her father, Dr. I.D. Blair was a Microbiologist (1945-1974) at Lincoln University.

The un-stretched canvas is reversible and able to be hung in a variety of iterations which in turn influence the feel of the work. Its current closed state suggests a mysterious interior only partially visible. Blair discovered this way of working after she stapled a canvas to the wall and found the next morning it had flopped over. It was a happy accident that became purposeful. Two dimensional paintings began to resemble sculpture and Blair enjoyed breaking down the barriers between mediums.

Often described as a semi-abstract expressionist artist, Blair cites her University of Canterbury lecturer Rudi Gopas as an early influence. Since graduating in 1967 she had exhibited extensively until her death in 2025 and her work is collected internationally.
