The Parton Ashes

Description

This trophy was the brainchild of Hugh Parton, former Professor of Chemistry at the University of Canterbury, who started the annual inter-department staff cricket match between UC and Lincoln College. The trophy was awarded to the victors of that match.

The "ashes" are said to be what remains of his celebrated bat converted to his favourite salt, MgCO₃. It's more likely they are a mixture of chemicals from his laboratory, but legend will have to suffice!
