Petone | Reinvent, Reconnect and Rediscover - Amanda Prothero

Petone can be seen as the 'gateway' to the Hutt Valley. This puts a huge weight on the small township to be a positive and enriching place. The specitacular natural harbour surrounded by steep hills is said to be one of the most beautiful in the world. 

Design Intent: 

• Reinvent: Petone will be a place which attracts people off these main transport corridors to explore and see what Petone has to offer. 
• Reconnect: The entry points and edges of the site need to be pulled into the main use areas of the site, being residential, commercial and the foreshore effectively making Petone one whole entity instead of the present disjointed smaller space.
• Rediscover: The main lines of streets used within Petone all run parallel with the foreshore, which create the disjointedness which in turn discourages people from exploring further than their initial reason for visiting in the first place.
