In the 1980s, an independent publisher, Alecto Historical Editions, alongside the Natural History Museum, printed 110 full colour sets of 738 engravings of original illustrations made by Sydney Parkinson around 1769. This specimen is one of 183 prints in the New Zealand plants section.

Sydney Parkinson was the botanical artist on board Banks' Endeavour on its first voyage. The Endeavour party collected many plant specimens form around the world on their travels, recording descriptions and storing samples for preservation. Parkinson's role was to provide detailed colour illustrations of the specimens. Before his death on board, Parkinson completed almost 950 drawings, with 269 colourised. After Parkinson's death, Banks employed artists to colourise the rest of the illustrations based on notes left by Parkinson and employed engravers to produce copperplate versions so the illustrations could be reproduced.
