She is interested in our desire to domesticate this world - bending it to our will. Swanson works on a scale that allows for a personal and intimate interaction with the viewer. Her precise, yet poetic, painted drawings call attention to the delicacy and vulnerability of nature, yet also interrogate the way with live with it.
While Swanson’s works are often humorous and uncanny, they also hint at darker aspects in this relationship, creating an unsettled feeling. Completed during the days of Covid 19 lockdowns this work depicts the view from the artist’s studio window. It is a pertinent reminder of the days we were reliant on observing life through our windows.
