Kia Whakapakari Kaiapoi: The revitalisation of Kaiapoi's town and community

Kia Whakapakari Kaiapoi will undertake an identity rejuvenation, becoming a unified community with an energetic heart, emphasising its deep cultural roots and form as a river town. Kaiapoi’s main street and heart intersect with the river, allowing the opportunity to enhance its river town forms. Kaiapoi’s cultural roots are losing focus within the community, and this design will revitalise those cultural roots and the history of the Kaiapoi Pā for all the people of Kaiapoi. Kia Whakapakari Kaiapoi will provide a long-term solution to flooding and sea level rise management for Kaiapoi through methods of adaptation, protection and retreat.
