Ivey Hall Garden Plans

The Ruth Burns Courtyard has been named to commemorate the initiative and efforts of Lady Burns to secure the restoration of Ivey Hall and was officially opened  24th February 1989. 

A semi circle of colenades marked the boundary of the garden when it was first planted in 1989. A collection of native plants was established, but these were removed when Ivey Hall was redeveloped in 1991.. The theme of "Mountains to the Sea", with a grid planting to represent the Canterbury Plains was developed when the Ivey Hall Building was extended in 1992, and the original garden was altered. 

Since that time, students from the School of Landscape Architecture have submitted their designs for the courtyard in the centre of the Ivey Hall Building, as part of their coursework, to offer their interpretation of how the space could have been developed. A selection of their plans are included in the collection below.
