Ivey Hall Redevelopment 1991-1992

Ivey Hall at Lincoln University has been altered and redeveloped several times since it was constructed in 1880. This collection of images show the changes made during the period 1991-1992 when the building was extended to the rear.

The changes made 1985-1987 saw a garden developed on the south east side of the building with a series of colonnades in a semi-circle, but this was modified for the 1991-1992 redevelopment to form an internal garden with a bridge when the building was extended. The building modifications increased the space on both floors considerably in response to the growth of students in the early 1990s, and fortunately a third level was added to the extension at the time, though initially it was left unfitted and only commissioned when the need arose for more collection and study space.

The garden has been redesigned and replanted several times since being established in 1989, and students from the School of Landscape Architecture have contributed their ideas as part of their coursework in a separate collection.

These images highlight the considerable changes made to the profile of the building and the courtyard, while the student work acknowledges the strong interest in the garden, confirming its place at the heart of the campus.
