25 June 1993 Past Staffer Back as New Real Estate Professor

Former Lincoln Senior Lecturer Dr Terry Boyd returns to the University's staff next month as Professor of Real Estate.

Dr Boyd takes up the post vacated last August by Lincoln's first Real Estate Professor, Dr John Baen, who is now back in the United States as Professor of Real Estate at North Texas University, Denton, Texas.

First appointed to Lincoln back in 1986, Dr Boyd has been away for the past four years teaching at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, and at the same time completing a Ph.D. degree. His research topic involved clarifying the definition of "market value", an issue of considerable relevance today.

Although Dr Boyd has been based away from New Zealand, he has been a frequent visitor back and last year presented a well received paper at the Property Management Institute conference. He has also published several articles in the major property journals and has remained in close touch with the New Zealand situation.

Born in South Africa and with a Masters degree from the University of Natal, Dr Boyd's past position at Lincoln was Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Valuation. In that role he and fellow Senior Lecturer Cedric Croft were key figures in organising the support of the Property Management Institute, the Institute of Valuers and the Real Estate Institute for the funding of the country's first professorial chair in Real Estate, Valuation and Property Management, the one filled by John Baen.

Dr Boyd enjoys a particularly good relationship with the professional property bodies in New Zealand, and colleagues at Lincoln who worked with him in the past are delighted at his return.
