    Profiles:

    Professor Andrew Sykes

    Professor Sykes was appointed to the Chair in Animal Science at Lincoln in 1978. He heads the University's Animal and Veterinary Sciences Group and is a past Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University.

     

    Professor Gordon Williams

    Professor Williams was appointed Professor of Entomology at Lincoln in 1980 after a career as Director of the NZ Wildlife Service and an earlier period as a Lecturer in Zoology at Lincoln. Professor Williams had an international reputation in the area of the preservation of endangered fauna. He died suddenly in 1983.

     

    Professor Richard Rowe

    Professor Rowe was appointed to Lincoln's Chair in Horticulture in 1979 and he heads the University's Department of Horticulture.

     

    Professor Roger Swift

    Professor Roger Swift took up the Chair in Soil Science at Lincoln in 1980. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Soil Science until the end of 1989 when he returned to his native Britain and the Chair in Soil Science at the University of Reading. He was Vice-Principal of Lincoln for four years, and Chair of the Research Committee for six years. He is now Chief, Division of Soils, CSIRO, Adelaide, Australia.

     

    Professor Don Ross

    Professor Ross was Lincoln's Professor of Wool Science from 1982 until his retirement in 1991. Professor Ross' Lincoln post was a joint appointment with the Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand.

     

    Professor Jim White

    Professor White was appointed to the Chair in Agronomy at Lincoln in 1982. A graduate of Lincoln, Professor White began lecturing at the then Lincoln College in 1957. When he retired at the end of 1993 he was the University's longest serving current staff member. Professor White is now an Emeritus Professor of the University.

     

    Professor Roger Juchau

    Professor Juchau took up Lincoln's Chair in Finance and Accounting in 1985. He was initially Head of the Department of Farm Management and Rural Valuation until it was renamed the Department of Farm and Property Management, Accounting and Valuation. When the grouping was further reorganised he was appointed Head of the Department of Accounting and Valuation. He returned to his native Australia in 1991 as Foundation Professor of Accounting and Management and Head of the Commerce Studies Centre at the University of Western Sydney.

     

    Professor Tony Zwart

    Professor Zwart was appointed to Lincoln's Chair in Marketing in 1984. He is a graduate of Lincoln and has been a staff member since 1977. He is Head of the University's Department of Economics and Marketing.

     

    Professor Tony Rayner

    Professor Rayner was appointed to the Chair in Agricultural Economics at Lincoln in 1985 and became Vice-Principal of Lincoln College towards the end of 1989. He collapsed and died while tramping near Wanaka in early 1990.

     

    Professor David Penman

    Professor Penman was appointed to Lincoln's Chair in Entomology in 1985. A graduate of Lincoln, he has been a staff member since 1973 and was Head of the Department of Entomology and Animal Ecology before being appointed a Pro Vice-Chancellor of Lincoln University in 1993.

     

    Professor Roger Field

    Professor Field has been Professor of Plant Science at Lincoln since 1986 and a staff member since 1970. He was Head of the Department of Plant Science until appointed a Pro Vice-Chancellor of Lincoln University in 1993.

     

    Professor Trevor Bryce

    Professor Bryce took up his post as Lincoln University's first Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the beginning of 1993. He came to Lincoln from the University of New England, Armidale, New South Wales, Australia, where he was Professor of Classics and Ancient History.

     

    Ms Ainslie Dewe

    Ms Dewe has been the Librarian at Lincoln since mid-1988. She is only the third Librarian in Lincoln's history and has led the university's Library to a new philosophy of access emphasizing the computer and on-line electronic links to other libraries and information resources throughout the country and the world.

     

    Professor Ian Cornforth

    Professor Cornforth was appointed to Lincoln University's Chair in Soil Science in 1990. He is Head of the Department of Soil Science and Deputy Chair of the University's Academic Administration Committee.

     

    Professor David Bullock

    Professor Bullock was appointed to Lincoln's Chair in Biochemistry in 1988 and heads the University's molecular biology group.

     

    Professor Ralph Lattimore

    Professor Lattimore was appointed to a personal Chair in Agricultural Economics in 1991. A graduate of Lincoln, he has been on the University's staff since 1983 and is a member of the Department of Economics and Marketing. In 1989 Professor Lattimore was an inaugural recipient of a Lincoln Special Achievement Award for Excellence in Research.

     

    Professor Tony Bywater

    Professor Bywater was appointed Professor of Farm Management at Lincoln in 1987. He is also Head of the Department of Farm Management.
