Professor Roger Field

Born in Britian, Roger Field completed a joint honours degree in botany and zoology at the University of Hull, followed by a PhD, also at Hull, studying the physiological mechanisms of herbicide and plant growth regulator translocation in plants.
He was appointed Professor of Plant Science at Lincoln in 1986, and moved into top university management in the mid-1990's serving periods as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Acting Vice-Chancellor. In April 2004 he was appointed Vice- Chancellor. He is Lincoln University's third Vice-Chancellor and the 10th head of the institution since it was founded in 1878 as a school of agriculture. Professor Field has had significant involvement with university and tertiary education issues and the support of policy development and academic quality assurance, both in New Zealand and internationally. He is currently Chair of the New Zealand ViceChancellors' Committee.
