10 September 1998 Lincoln University Music Society welcomes spring with piano recital

Dunedin-based pianist Kemp English is the featured artist at Lincoln University Music Society's Spring Concert on Thursday 17 September, in Memorial Hall on the campus.

As always, the concert is free, it starts at 12.40pm and all residents of the local communities around the University are welcome to attend.

A distinguished graduate, prize-winner and scholarship holder of the Royal Academy of Music, London, and subsequently a member of the teaching staff there, Kemp English is now an Executant Lecturer in fortepiano, organ and harpsichord at the University of Otago.

Kemp English made his debut in the internationally renowned York Early Music Festival in 1989 with a solo fortepiano recital. Since then he has given numerous recitals both as a soloist and chamber musician in London and throughout Britain and spent some time performing and teaching in Switzerland.

Since his appointment to the Music Department at Otago University in 1994 he has performed regularly as a soloist and continuo player with the Southern Chamber Players. He is an established Radio New Zealand recording artist and combines his teaching and performing career with the post of Organist at Dunedin's St Joseph's Cathedral.

For his Lincoln University concert the programme covers Mozart, Fantasia in C Minor K475; Marshall, Prelude (1995); Mozart, Sonata in C K330; Field Nocturne in B Flat; and Beethoven, Sonata in C minor Op13 (pathetique).
