In 2007 Lincoln University received the highest percentage increase (64.6%) of funding from the New Zealand Government's Performance Based Research Fund (PBRF) for a university, relative to the traditional degree funding system and based on research performance assessed against three criteria – the research ranking of staff; PhD completions; and external research income.

In 2007 Lincoln University has also received a total of $16 million of research funding for forward projects supported by the Government's Foundation for Research, Science and Technology.

Lincoln University also received confirmation in 2007 of Government funding of almost $24 million for the period 2009-2015 for the National Centre for Advanced Bio-Protection Technologies, based on the campus.
