Tapuwaeharuru, the place of the resounding footsteps, is the name of the dramatic cliffs in Lyttelton Harbour that surround Gollans bay. They are part of the volcanic crater rim, a significant threshold between the plains and the peninsula . Between one place and another. To be at such a threshold is an exhilarating feeling.

The journey to the site is Characterised by a range of passages and thresholds.

Evans pass the gateway from Sumner to Lyttelton
The coastal edge between land and sea
The harbour heads gateway when arriving by boat
The Lyttelton tunnel, a primal passage through the heart of a major threshold
