REGIONAL RATIONALE
Nelson, a city lay at the top of the South Island, adjacent to Tasman region and Tasman Bay. Nelson is populated with around 50,000 residents, a place known for European heritage, stunning coastal scenery, a variety of recreation opportunities, thriving art industries, and Walking Friendly streetscape. However, a sudden shift to an industrial, car-dominant environment broken up the connection between the seafront and CBD by State Highway 6. Therefore, the sense of place and local identity that Nelson is proud of a fading.

The intent of this project is to REFORM the Traffic Hierarchy to deprivilege of cars so the seafront can be enjoyed by a wider population, REGENERATE a new city interface that expending the Nelson CBD and seafront pattern, and RECLAIM the lost local identity and sense of place.
