“Community service and volunteering contribute to positive changes, build stronger communities, and of course, allow for personal growth and development,” she said.

Sahiti's role as the President of the Lincoln University International and Cultural Society Club, in which she devoted many hours to planning events and initiatives for international students to ensure they have a place to connect and support one another, was among the many reasons she earned the accolade last year.

The Master of Science in Food Innovation student has continued her involvement with clubs and volunteering initiatives on campus. 

"I still have the pleasure of being the mentor and President for the LU International and Cultural Society, which allows me to work with new club members, and enhances the club's growth.

"As a class representative for the courses in my degree in 2023, I have also had the opportunity to represent nearly 70 students in my courses.

"Another new volunteering initiative that I have been a part of in 2023, is the Student Buddy Programme, where I support new students with their transition to university and connected them with important support services on campus."

Since the end of 2022, she has also worked on cultural projects and events aimed at bringing communities together and celebrating cultural diversity at Lincoln University, such as social events for Indian students, World Day for Cultural Diversity, NZ Chinese Language Week, and Selwyn CultureFest.

"More recently, I hosted an International Student Support Evening event in collaboration with LUSA and the university's support services. It was a sold-out event with nearly 80 students in attendance," Sahiti said.

She has also been busy continuing to demonstrate 3D food printing at Children's University on-campus sessions.

Sahiti is again among the nominees who will be at the Blues and Golds Awards dinner this week to celebrate the achievements and efforts of Lincoln students in the community and in sports.
