29 September 1995 National Reps Among Lincoln Sports "Blues"

Five New Zealand sporting representatives plus a national record holder were among the eight students awarded Lincoln University "blues" at a ceremony on the campus tonight (Friday 29 Sept.)

The University "blues" recognize outstanding sporting achievements and they went to Jennie Callesen, netball; Hamish Dugdale, canoe polo (NZ Under-22 team international); Paul Hersey, soccer; Anna Lawrence, hockey (vice-captain NZ Women's Hockey Team and a NZ Team member since 1990); Jonathon Neilson, rowing (NZ representative, Under-22 doubles); Jane Parrett, motorcycle racing (NZ record holder, 250cc class); Gary Robertson, canoe polo  (NZ Canoe Polo Team 1990-91); and Dayle Slinn, smallbore shooting (NZ junior representative 1995).

The awards were presented by the President of Lincoln University Students' Association, Kerry Sullivan, and Canterbury rugby representative Chris England was the guest speaker at the function.

The eight were chosen from 20 nominees covering 11 different sports and the University's Campus Activities manager, Annette McInnes said all were of a very high calibre.
