31 January 1995 International Tree Scientists Visit Lincoln Trial

One hundred and twenty tree physiologists associated with the International Union of Forestry Research Organisations visited Lincoln University's six-hectare agroforestry trial block on Weedons Road on Monday (30/Jan.).

The scientists - from North America, Europe, Russia and elsewhere - are in New Zealand on a summer travelling workshop organised by the NZ Forest Research Institute, Christchurch, and a number of other bodies including Lincoln University.

At the agroforestry trial the visitors saw the progress of pinus radiata trees planted in 1990 with six different pasture covers underneath.

The trial is concerned with the viability of combining tree planting and livestock grazing on the same blocks of land.

Principal themes of the forestry scientists' workshop are the interactive effects of two or more environmental variables and responses at the level of forest stands.
