2009 Art Auction Lincoln University

Art Auction, School of Landscape Architecture [SoLA], 20th November, 2009. Year 2009 marks the 40th year of landscape architecture education at Lincoln University, emphasising its position as the most established programme in New Zealand. Lincoln University also boasts an extensive Art Collection which was established by the University Arts Committee, in particular Dick Lucas and Michael Smetham. The collection includes works dating from as early as 1639, with the majority of works by contemporary New Zealand artists dating from the commencement of active collecting in the 1970s through to the present day. Dick and Michael's commitment to the Art Collection continues, and they have made significant contributions to the gathering of works for the Art Auction. The Art Auction grew out of both of these strong presences on the Lincoln University campus, and celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the SoLA with the vision to raise funds for a Sculptor on Campus in 2010. The Art Collection includes some fine sculptural works, two of which resulted from hosting Neil Dawson and Chris Booth on campus. Both sculptors contributed to the teaching programme in landscape architecture as well as adding the works to the collection, and we aspire to again achieve this synergy of art and landscape architecture.
