In her publication Ivey Hall: A Pictorial Comment" (1977), Ruth Burns writes: "Today the road to Lincoln presents a different view. It is sealed and heavy traffic speeds its length; wire fences and trim shelter belts have replaced the sod and gorse; and new College buildings, rising high above the distant trees, make known the campus. As a different system for practical work has evolved, students no longer work in the paddocks, and the bell is silent. The College has grown enormously: there are now women students, overseas students, and a large post-graduate group. It is no longer a community that can be readily comprehended."

This view down Springs Road towards the University has changed significantly from 1977 now that the Burns Building has been demolished (2024). The Hilgendorf Building, just seen above the tree tops, is also gone, while the George Forbes Building can still be spotted.
