Matauranga Little River: Remaking the connection between land & water regional plan - Auriella Bainbridge

Design Vision: To remake the connections between the land, water and Little township into a relationship of celebrating the unique history and landscape of the area. Create a healthy landscape from the historically degraded Wairewa catchment and increase the physical and mental wellbeing of the Little River township.

Design Intent:  This area forms the green spine of Okana waterway which links the key generational spaces and forms distinct links between areas. The hillside Urupa and archeological site overlooks the site and provides a place of reflection and a vista across the river and towards the school.

The resting place of the elders look over the school where the young grow and learn. The school is set within the green native forest and is connected to the waterway through an outdoor classroom and the learning place extends out into the sensory gardens which provide exploration through the senses and provides a route towards the Urupa. Located next to the school is a retirement village which allows The different life stages culminate and mix in the Ohiri river playround.
