Lincoln University will be hosting on campus the Postgraduate Conference on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 September 2011.  The annual conference, a joint initiative with the Lincoln University Students’ Association, offers an excellent opportunity to observe and discuss the ground-breaking research that is being undertaken by postgraduate students at Lincoln University.

“The Postgraduate Conference is significant in promoting the achievements of postgraduate students and celebrating the diversity and quality of their research.  The standing of the Conference continues to grow year by year and has become one of the key research-related initiatives at Lincoln University.

“A modern university requires a high level of postgraduate activity to support the overall research endeavour and the Conference is a central showcase for demonstrating the innovation and creativity of our students,” says Lincoln University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Roger Field.

Over the two days there is an exciting line-up of keynote speakers and the guest speaker for this year’s conference is Dr Mark Quigley from the University of Canterbury.  There will be 40 presentations from postgraduate students representing the:

    • Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences (AGLS)
    • Faculty of Commerce (Commerce)
    • Faculty of Environment Society and Design (ESD)
    • Bio-Protection Research Centre (CORE)

Craig Sixtus, Chair of the Organising Committee is looking forward to watching the postgraduate students showcase their research.  “The Postgraduate Conference provides participants with the opportunity to discuss ground-breaking research, with each student allocated 15 minutes to present their research in a concise manner to their peers and academic staff, followed by five minutes of Q&A.  The Conference provides a supportive environment that will help students improve their presentation skills as well as gaining a good sense of the value of their research and the research of other students” he says.

The conference will conclude on Friday 2 September with a dinner and prize giving.
