Steamer Basin | Revitalisation

Design Intent: The intermediate plan seeks to revitalise the Steamer Basin through a variety of spaces with an additional focus on the interaction with the wind. The public space along the promenade celebrates the wind and features wind gardens and kinetic sculptures, which are complemented by indoor and outdoor pockets of shelter. The plan includes mixed-use commercial, office, and residential spaces and both green and grey public open space that ultimately activates the waterfront through a range of varied activities. The plan also integrates effective stormwater management systems to aid in reducing surface runoff and rising groundwater, strengthening the Steamer Basins water resilience. In addition to this, the adaptive reuse of key historical structures strengthens the Steamer Basin’s roots by fostering a sense of place while also blending with modern design.
