Rolleston Redefined: Supporting The Greater Christchurch Region

Design Inspiration:

Rolleston’s new town core, “The Junction” provides a social space for people and nature to interact with a vibrant atmosphere during the day and night. The Junction defines
the town core of Rolleston, encouraging the community to identify a sense of place that is highlighted within the storytelling landscape.

The inspiration of historical phases in the creation story of Rolleston determines the access routes for both people and nature into the town centre. The Railway junction and Rocky alluvial flow direct the flow of space and character within the heart of Rolleston. The dominant use of materials specific to these processes can be seen through materiality within major elements of the site to highlight and celebrate the historical context of the town.
