A rural holiday experience in a Kanuka gove with strong formal design that reflects the unique conditions of the valley.

The design intent is to integrate patrons of the lodge with landscape processes. The lodge has been designed to reflect the mist that rolls over the hills in the valley. The atmospheric phenomenon has been reflected in the master plan of the lodge by placing vegetation corridors coursing down between the buildings. In addition, vegetation follows and is structured by the swale system throughout the design. The buildings have been located and designed to reflect the rocky outcrops in the valley that stick out in the mist. The lodge has been laid-out in a linear form across the landscape to reduce visual impact. It has been elevated above the valley floor to provide scenic views, solar gain, and retain fertile flat land. 

The public will be able to use the restaurant, bar, and recreation facilities to provide supplementary income for the lodge. The circulation of the lodge has been laid out to minimise roading area and allow for a strong pedestrian spine. Patrons will be able to move freely through the covered walkways that have been located btween the buildings for extra shelter.
