Woolston Re-development - Yunlong Han

The South-East Christchurch, Woolston area, is one of the oldest residental and industrial urban areas. The nature of Woolston area has been changed totally. There are few opportunities for major change in the land use pattern, but future significant development is likely to be in the form of re-development within the established zone areas. The river of Heathcote, which is one of important waterways in Christchurch flows from South-West through East to South-East of Woolston area.

Woolston area has poor environment qualities and residential amenities, which are affected by excessive traffic, industrial, commercial or non-conforming uses and poor streetscape. The whole area needs to be renewed to suit the city's rapid development and to reinforce the "Garden City" image of Christchurch. Heathcote River is identified by City Council as a key water system in the city and Council is keen to develop and promote this waterway.
