The Intensive Course was the academic part of Lincoln's two-year Diplema in Agriculture. It involved full time study. Our class of 25 included 13 non-RFC students who, if successful, would qualify for the Certificate in Agriculture, and be eligible to take the advanced Diploma in Valuation and Farm Management. By this time three of our group had dropped out; Brian Loe, Dave Collett, and Phil Edwards, while Don Grist had died. Hugh Crawshaw was to leave during the Intensive Course.

The course proved exactly what its name implied, intensive. It corvered nine subjects: Animal Husbandry, Animal Health, Crop Husbbandry, Pastures, Agriculture Botany, Soils, Agriculture Engineering, and Farm Mangement. Farm Management saw us visit and study several different farming and production systems in Cantebury. Practical exercises were also done on the Lincoln farms including dairying, mixed cropping and dry land agriculture.
