Vince Ashworth was born in Alexandra in 1931. He was educated at Alexandra District High School (ADHS), Otago Boys High School (OBHS), and Massey and Lincoln Universities.
Vince came to CAC as a Rural Field Cadet. He completed the Intensive Course in 1954 and the Diploma in Valuation and Farm Management in 1955, when he was runner- up for the Gold Medal.
After completing his CAC studies, he was appointed Field Officer with the Department of Lands and Survey. In 1958 he started out in agricultural consulting. Vince did more than anyone in New Zealand to put agricultural consultancy on a professional and business-like basis. Formed a partnership, Ashworth and Associates. He was eager to see the profession of agricultural consultancy recognised nationally, so took major initiatives in establishing the New Zealand Society of Farm Management. Ashworth and Associates then established themselves in international consultancy. Spent two years in Tanzania as a member of an FAO technical assistance team assisting the Tanzanian Rural Bank. His achievements in this work were then recognised by the offer of a full-time position on the staff of the World Bank as Senior Agriculturalist in the Projects Department.
