Colin James McKenzie (1958-61 BAgrSc, MAgrSc), the Bledisloe Medallist, 1985. After the completion of his masterate he combined study with research for the AERU and lecturing. Employed initially in Treasury’s Land Use Division, he was involved in updating the work of the Agricultural Production Council aimed at boosting farm production. In the early 1970s, in the Internal Economics Division, he worked on economic forecasting and macroeconomic policy. He made valuable contributions to international debates on economic policy and in 1982 he was elected chairman of the OECD’s premier working party on macroeconomic and structural policy issues. Jas McKenzie followed his Treasury career with eight years as Secretary of Labour, through to 1994.
