13 June 2024 Lincoln University Rises in Global Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024

Te Whare Wānaka o Aoraki Lincoln University has achieved a significant milestone in the latest Global Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2024, securing a position in the 101-200 band out of nearly 2000 universities from 125 countries.

The 2024 ranking is a considerable step up from the University’s previous highest position in the 201-300 band and demonstrates the University’s commitment to being an exemplar of sustainable practices for the land-based sector and its ecosystems. This achievement is a clear indicator that we are making good progress on our sustainability journey.

Lincoln University placed 3rd in the world for SDG 2 Zero Hunger, marking our highest ranking. This recognition underscores our impactful research and excellent education efforts aimed at addressing global hunger. Our dedication to maintaining a research-rich and globally connected environment has been pivotal in solidifying our leadership in land-based education and research, crucial in addressing food poverty and promoting sustainable food practices.

Additionally, the University ranked 52 for SDG 15 Life on Land, showcasing the practical applications of our education and research programmes in the areas of biodiversity, restoration of degraded lands, sustainability of natural habitats and preservation of terrestrial ecosystems.

Four of our 14 SDG categories submitted ranked in the top 100:

• SDG 2 Zero Hunger – Ranked 3
• SDG 13 Climate Action Ranked 71
• SDG 15 Life on Land – Ranked 52
• SDG 17 Partnership for the Goals - Ranked 54

Lincoln University Vice-Chancellor and Chair of the Sustainability Taskforce Professor Grant Edwards said sustainability is at the heart of the University’s teaching, research and leadership.

Lincoln University’s Sustainability Plan outlines our objectives of being sector leaders in education, research and demonstration of sustainability, and becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and carbon zero by 2050.

THE University Impact Rankings is a global ranking system that assesses universities based on their commitment to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The rankings factor in universities' performance in teaching, research, outreach and stewardship.

Additionally, there are the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings in which Lincoln University has an overall global ranking of 94 and has maintained a top 100 spot for the past three consecutive years.
