"The Practicalities of Organic Production" is the theme of an agricultural field day on 22 February on the Canterbury property of the winners of the 2000 Lincoln University Foundation/Rabobank Farmer of the Year title.

Tim Chamberlain and Rose Donaghy of Lakeside, Leeston, won the title in the latest competition, which had Organic Farming as the category. On their 160- hectare property, Hart's Creek, they produce a range of organic crops including vegetables, herbs, cereals and livestock (organic lambs).

The field day will start at 1.30pm and finish around 4.00pm. Hart's Creek Farm is located about 4 kilometres south of Leeston and will be sign-posted from the Leeston Hotel.

In addition to Tim and Rose, speakers will include Jon Manhire, an executive officer of the Organic Products Exporters Group. Mr Manhire will discuss export opportunities for organic products versus the local consumption market.

No registrations are required for the field day but if you require further information contact Errol Costello, Professional Development Group, Lincoln University, phone (03) 32523 832.
