Wellington public policy consultant Charlotte Williams has been elected Pro Chancellor of Lincoln University. (4 December)

Ms Williams succeeds Christchurch accountant Gill Cox who has been Pro Chancellor for the past six years and has retired from the University Council.

A long-serving member of the University's Council, Ms Williams has held the Pro Chancellor's position on a previous occasion, occupying the office in Lincoln's first year as an autonomous university, 1990.

With an honours degree from Oxford, Ms Williams was called to the Bar, Inner Temple, London, in the mid-1960s, then later completed a masters degree in public administration at Princeton University. She had an 18-year career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, heading the Australian Division from 1981-84, before turning to private consultancy work.

Former Minister of Research, Science and Technology, the Hon. Margaret Austin, has been re-elected (4 December) Chancellor of Lincoln University for a third consecutive term.
