Vitality in the Hauraki: Browns Bay

Vision: With high quality alternative transport network, mixed use town centre and enhanced public open spaces, Browns Bay will be transformed into a vibrant coastal township and become a sought after area for medium/high density living in Auckland.

Goals and Objectives:
Goal 1: To provide Browns Bay residents and broader Auckland public with alternative transport options:

Objective 1 -  Provide an inviting gateway experience and infrastructure for a ferry service to operate between Browns Bay and destinations in the Hauraki Gulf

Objective 2 -  Develop a cycle lane network throughout Browns Bay and connect it to the Northern Pathway (see regional transport map)

Objective 3 - Redesign the streetscape to create safer and more appealing conditions for pedestrians

Goal 2: To develop a vibrant mixed use town centre which enhances the daily lives of locals while acting as a destination for visitors

Objective 1 -  Develop vertical mixed use perimeter blocks with active uses (shops, cafés, businesses or community facilities) at ground level to create a lively street environment

Objective 2 - Create a vibrant public spaces along the central axis which can be used as meeting points, community gatherings, markets and performances

Goal 3: To improve the ecosystem services and recreational opportunities in Browns Bay public green spaces

Objective 1 -  Improve the health of Taiaotea Stream and provide streamside walkway, connecting the east and west green open spaces in Browns Bay

Objective 2 - Protect Beachfront Reserve from erosion and sea level rise whilst increasing opportunities for active and passive recreation

Objective 3 - Redevelop Freyberg Park into a recreation hub for the community and revegetate unused spaces with coastal forest species
