24 May 1996 Trophy for printed word skills among spoken word specialists

Sometimes Toastmasters – those enthusiastic practitioners and perfectors of public-speaking skills – turn to the power of the printed word, such as when putting together club bulletins and other written material. And it seems there's scope for excelling there too as Lincoln University Communication Lecturer Colleen Mills has demonstrated.

President of Christchurch’s Pegasus Toastmasters Club and one of those who encouraged the foundation of the Lincoln Toastmasters Club, Colleen has just won the trophy for the top editor in New Zealand for Toastmasters bulletins.

These bulletins are the club newsletters and with 163 clubs throughout New Zealand eligible to enter, Colleen's publication was judged the best. Her entry now goes on to the Toastmasters world contest in the United States.
