Summer – fun, sun and mathematics!
    News
    Date7th October 1996 Lincoln University

An opportunity to study mathematics over the coming summer vacation is being offered by Lincoln University, with one of the courses providing full academic credit towards degree programmes.

The “full credit" option, Qmet 101, or Quantitative Methods, is the elementary mathematics course compulsory for all of Lincoln University's Commerce degrees.

The other course, Bridging Maths, is an "upskilling" programme for incoming students who are starting Commerce but have not done sixth form mathematics or have been away from school and maths for some time.

Qmet 101 is being offered in nine three-hour evening sessions from 6.30pm on the following dates, 18, 25 November, 2, 9, 16 December and 6, 13, 20 and 27 January with a final examination on 30 January. It is open to all Lincoln University students. If you are not currently enrolled but are eligible for enrolment, contact Margaret Wade-Wilson of the Academic section. Intending participants will need to have received notice of University Entrance qualification or be at least 20 years of age.

The course content is the same as during normal term time but the presentation will be adapted to suit a smaller group with less class time required. Self-directed learning will be based on a textbook and carefully monitored.

Assessment will include regular assignments and three tests plus the final examination.

The "Bridging Maths" course runs from 11-14 February, 9am-4pm daily.

The lecturers for both courses are Lyn Holland and Dr Katie Bicknell of Lincoln’s Department of Economics and Marketing.

Fee and other details for both courses are available from Betty Shore of the University's Centre for Continuing Education, telephone (03) 3252-811.
