17 December 1999 Lincoln's Summer School Option Popular

Summer indoors seems a preferred option for nearly 300 people – students attending Lincoln University's current Summer School, which runs through until two days before Christmas Eve.

A 26 percent increase in enrolments over 1998 for the first of the season's two Summer Schools has confirmed for Lincoln that an increasing number of students want to ‘fast track’ their study programmes, says the University's Manager of External Relations, Geoff Ormandy.

Lincoln University introduced a Summer School programme last year which was greeted enthusiastically by existing internal students, students from other universities and newcomers to tertiary study. A range of full university papers is offered with lectures, assignments, and exams compressed into a concentrated timeframe. Candidates complete their study in about half the time of a normal semester.

A feature of this year's enrolment is the number of students who are new to Lincoln, including international students.

"The Summer School study option highlights the need for education providers to offer more flexible study programmes and multiple entry points for students," says Mr Ormandy.

Eighty-five students are also enrolled in a ‘Monsoon Season’ School offered in Malaysia.

Lincoln University's second Summer School of the season starts on 10 January and runs to 15 February.

Papers offered in Summer School I (currently under way) are Computing, Principles of Economics, Management Accounting, Financial Management, Introduction to the Legal Environment of Business, and Elements of Mathematics.

Papers offered in Summer School II (starting in January) are Principles of Marketing, Human Resource Management, Introduction to Business Management, Problem Solving on Microcomputers, Accounting Fundamentals, Business Financial Administration, Introduction to Landscape Design, Applications of Design Process, Introduction to Social Psychology, and Statistics.
