16 July 1999 Campus Employment Expo 'Just the Job' For Making Career Contacts and Decisions

Graduate recruitment takes a new twist at Lincoln University this week with a campus ‘Employment Expo’ featuring 18 employers all at the University at the same time.

Traditionally employers have made individual visits to the campus to make their career presentations to those about to complete their studies and graduate, but a number of limitations in this system have led the University's Employment Liaison Manager, Robbie McDougall, to supplement it with a ‘one-stop-shop’ occasion.

The Expo is on Wednesday 21 July between 10.00am and 4.00pm in Lincoln University's Stewart Building and organisations taking part include Tait Electronics, Audit NZ, Canterbury Tourism, Christchurch Casino, Global Information Solutions, NZ Dairy Board, Livestock Improvement Corporation, Corbans Wines, ASB Bank, ParkRoyal Hotel, TeachNZ, Christchurch College of Education and the Defence Forces.

"Many students know little of the reality behind their prospective career path or about the vast array of employment opportunities available to them," says Ms McDougall.

"It is essential that both the University and employers provide information at an early enough stage to allow students to make informed choices about courses of study, the type of career they seek and the essential steps they have to take towards this. Wednesday's Expo is a contribution to that process."
