10 April 2002 30th Anniversary Reunion – marking 30 years since the start of parks, recreation and tourism teaching at Lincoln University

Over 100 graduates, diplomates and past students of parks, recreation and tourism courses at Lincoln University will be back on campus this Friday and Saturday (12-13 April) for a 30th Anniversary Reunion as described above.

International alumni returning include a zoologist from the United Kingdom, a landscape architect from Malaysia and a forestry academic from the United States.

Among New Zealand resident graduates coming for the reunion are Jude Ellis of Sport & Recreation New Zealand, Wellington, who rowed across the Atlantic last year with team mate Steph Brown, the pair finishing fourth in that endurance event. Jude has represented New Zealand in both rowing and women's rugby.

Seminars –

On-going through Friday morning from 8.30am in Room S1 on the Lincoln campus. 

1. Professor David Simmons, Professor of Tourism, introduces Susanne Becken, who is doing doctoral-level research on the ecological cost of tourism to New Zealand.
2. Outdoor recreation lecturer Kay Booth, introduces Jason Leppens, who will talk on New Zealand's newest national park, Rakiura (on Stewart Island).
3. Dr Jenny Ross, Director of the Human Sciences Division, will introduce Kim Sinclair who will talk on health and physical education opportunities.
    

At 11.00am Jude Ellis, now a Coaching Adviser with Sport & Recreation New Zealand, will talk on Crossing the Atlantic in a rowboat – the joys and tribulations of 'extreme' recreation.

All the talks are in Room S1 in the Stewart Building at Lincoln University.

At 1.15pm reunion participants will gather at the Black Cat Boat's B Jetty at Lyttelton for transport across to Quail Island to see the flora and fauna habitat restoration work on the island.
