18 June 2002 Lincoln's Regional Education Programme comes to Darfield

Like to start earning papers towards a university qualification from where you live and work, without having to attend formal lectures on campus?

Lincoln University's Regional Education Programme offers a convenient, flexible opportunity to enjoy part-time university study.

If you are busy working or have family commitments or other demands on your time but would like to do some tertiary study then Regional Education offers a friendly starting point.

The programme offers a range of introductory subjects required for a number of Lincoln degrees. Several more advanced papers are also offered.

While at this point of time it is not possible to complete a full degree under the Regional Education programme there are a number of options open to candidates.

• You can enrol in one or more subjects for interest only. This is known as a "Certificate of Proficiency" enrolment. On passing the paper you will receive a Certificate which you can use as a credential in its own right with your CV.
• You can enrol to do papers towards a Lincoln University undergraduate certificate. The award of these certificates involves completing seven papers in an approved course of study. Options exist for crediting all or a specified number of papers from a completed certificate to a degree enrolment.
• You can enrol to do papers towards a full degree. Note, however, that some campus study is still required to complete the complement of 24 papers needed for a bachelor's degree.
   

Regional Education is part-time study away from the campus in your home district. It is self-study supported by internet access to Lincoln University resources and by personal contact with a tutor or Learning Coordinator.

The programme uses learning materials that have been specially designed for part-time study. To help you master the subject there are self-study modules, readings, group discussions, field trips and hands-on experiences.

Self-study is supported by convenient group meetings with Learning Coordinators.

Weekly study groups at convenient locations continue over the 12-week semester. They usually operate in the evenings although there could be some daytime workshops if students prefer that time.

If you cannot attend a study group then participatory and interactive learning is achieved through students linking in freephone teleconferencing nets.

Lincoln University's Regional Education programme also has a component – Tatai Whetu – developed specifically for Maori students and whanau groups. In addition there is another component offering advanced and accelerated study opportunities for secondary school students. Capable students are given the opportunity to pursue selected first and second year university papers while still at school.
