15 September 2004 Louise Bowls Field for Top Lincoln Sports Award

White Ferns pace bowler Louise Milliken has been named Lincoln University's Sports Person of the Year and along with four fellow members of the New Zealand Women's Cricket Team from the recently completed tour of England and Ireland she has been awarded a cricket "Blue" for 2004 by the University.

Team mates Nicola Browne, Amanda Green, Maria Fahey and Sara McGlashan joined Louise among a galaxy of sporting talent honoured by Lincoln University at its annual Blues and Golds ceremony on the campus tonight. (Wed.15 Sept.)

In last month's series of five one day internationals against England Louise was the best performing New Zealand bowler taking eight wickets for an average of 15.75 runs and she was the third best performing bowler of the two teams. Louise is on a Prime Minister's Scholarship at Lincoln University studying for a recreation management degree.

Thirty individual presentations were made at the Lincoln ceremony, six of them "Golds" for outstanding contributions to the cultural life of the University.

The Team of the Year award went to the Lincoln University Netball Team. The team won all their games in Division One of the Canterbury Senior Competition, gaining promotion to the Premier Division for 2005.

Seven different sports were represented among the Blues winners – including korfball for the first time.

Rugby: Hannah Babe (Canterbury representative, Black Ferns training squad).

Rowing: David McKellar (national champion coxless quad member).

Guest speaker at the ceremony was world champion public speaker David Nottage, an "Australian-born New Zealander" and motivational speaker who spoke on the topic "Dare To Dream".
