21 October 2022 New York internships on offer for supply chain students

Sasha Van Beek and Max Dobbe are hungry to take a bite out of the Big Apple.

The Lincoln supply chain management students have been selected to be interns at Kuehne + Nagal's (K+N) New York office through a programme set up by the global logistics giant and the University.

Pending visa requirements being finalised they will be en-route to the United States in December.

They are both keen to learn as much as they can during their one-year stay, with Sasha looking forward to gaining practical experience working for the firm.

Max is also keen to take in some of the sports on offer such as the NBA and MLB, while Sasha wants to experience the culture and learn about more about the New York Yankees and Knicks too.

K+N's Marcus Reimann, Sea Freight North America lead, Stephen Pierson-Massey, VP North American Trade, and Lincoln alumna Aimee Kingsbury, Sea Logistics Customer Excellence Manager, who will oversee the intern programme, visited Lincoln this week to reconfirm the programme, which was set up in 2019, after COVID put it on hiatus.

They praised the students from Lincoln as having a positive attitude, commitment, and a diversity of thought.

Associate Professor Mark Wilson, who heads the Supply Chain Management programme from which graduates can apply for the internships, said there had been a lot of applications.

He said Lincoln’s Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Supply Chain Management was a relatively unique programme in New Zealand as it focused on relevant industry contexts and mixed delivery of learning which produces work ready graduates.

"The degree is extremely relevant to all industries and presently we can’t seem to supply enough graduates."
